Master of Arts in Education (MA Education)
Introduction
The Master of Arts in Education (MA Education) is designed for educators, academic professionals, and individuals with experience in educational settings who seek to deepen their understanding of educational theory, policy, research, and practice. Delivered in partnership with the University of Suffolk (UK), this programme provides a rigorous postgraduate pathway for those aspiring to advance their careers in teaching, educational leadership, academic research, and education management.
Underpinned by transdisciplinary teaching, research, and professional practice, the MA Education equips students with critical scholarship, research capability, and reflective expertise to navigate contemporary educational challenges. The programme places strong emphasis on sustainable educational thinking, ethical practice, and evidence-based decision-making — preparing graduates to contribute meaningfully to the future development of education in diverse global contexts.
Why Choose MA Education at Hanbridge Institute?
Students enrolled in the MA Education at Hanbridge Institute are registered as University of Suffolk students and benefit from the same academic standards, quality assurance, and external examination processes as students studying in the UK. This ensures full equivalence in curriculum, assessment, and academic rigour. The programme is designed for working professionals and offers flexible full-time and part-time study modes in Singapore. Students engage in interactive seminars, research workshops, reflective practice sessions, and guided academic supervision. Throughout the course, learners develop advanced critical thinking, research literacy, leadership awareness, and the ability to apply theory to real educational contexts.
A distinctive feature of the MA Education is its strong focus on reflective and inclusive practice, educational leadership, and applied research. Students complete an independent research project in an area of education relevant to their professional interests, enabling them to graduate with both academic depth and practical expertise. For those pursuing further academic advancement, the MA Education provides progression opportunities into doctoral-level research or specialised postgraduate education qualifications.
Course Overview
The MA Education balances advanced academic scholarship with professional application. Students explore contemporary educational theories, global education policies, inclusive education models, leadership and coaching frameworks, and ethical reflective practice. Through structured research training, learners develop the skills to design and conduct independent educational research, critically evaluate academic literature, and propose evidence-based solutions to complex educational issues.
The learning approach combines face-to-face teaching, flipped-classroom engagement, academic coaching, and research supervision. This blended delivery model ensures both flexibility and intensive academic support throughout the programme.

Programme Structure
The MA Education is a Level 7 postgraduate programme comprising 180 credits. The curriculum consists of five core modules:
Reflective Practice and Ethics
This module strengthens students’ ability to apply reflective practice and ethical reasoning in education through a deep engagement with relevant theory, research, and professional practice. Students will develop systematic understanding of educational knowledge and critically explore theories of teaching, learning, policy, and future developments, promoting sustainable educational thinking. The module emphasises the connection between theory and practice, supporting learners to actively reflect on professional experiences and evaluate their effectiveness. Students will also critically assess current educational research and scholarship to inform decision-making and professional development. Through innovative and creative application of knowledge, learners will demonstrate sophisticated reflection when addressing complex educational challenges, ensuring ethical awareness, responsible practice, and ongoing improvement aligned with the ethos of lifelong learning.
Inclusive Practice and Disability
This module equips students with critical knowledge and understanding of the rights and needs of disabled children, young people, and adults across varied educational and social settings. Students will examine disability through established disability models and current research, enabling them to engage with contemporary debates and promote sustainable inclusive thinking. The module emphasises critical discussion of policy and practice, supporting students to evaluate inclusive approaches and identify gaps or barriers. Learners will apply theory and policy to propose creative, research-informed, and sustainable solutions that strengthen inclusion in real-world contexts. By integrating scholarship with practice, students will enhance professional judgement and develop inclusive strategies that support equity, dignity, and meaningful participation for all learners.
Leadership and Coaching
This module explores key theories, models, and approaches to educational leadership and coaching, with attention to the political, socioeconomic, cultural, and institutional factors shaping organisational improvement. Students will critically evaluate contemporary research and advanced scholarship to strengthen sustainable thinking and leadership practice. The module develops understanding of change management and the complexities of educational reform, legislation, and policy, including how coaching can support individuals and teams through change. Students will also examine their own moral philosophy and professional values, reflecting on how these influence leadership decisions and behaviours. Through independent learning and scholarly inquiry, students will develop originality, critical thinking, and the ability to communicate leadership insights and evidence-based strategies to diverse audiences.
Applying Theory in Research
This module develops students’ ability to understand and apply a range of theoretical frameworks used in ethical educational research. Students will explore the roles theories play across the research process, from shaping research questions and study design, to guiding methodology selection and interpreting findings for practice. The module also builds students’ capability to critically identify, evaluate, and analyse theoretical frameworks used in contemporary and advanced educational scholarship. Students will learn to present research-based evidence and construct critical arguments that demonstrate originality in theoretical application. Independent learning is emphasised, strengthening advanced academic and transferable skills relevant to future study and professional employability.
Independent Project
This module enables students to design and complete an independent, ethical project that integrates theory, evidence, and methodological rigour in a chosen field of education. Students will demonstrate systematic understanding of relevant theories and empirical research, positioning their project within wider educational debates. They will develop comprehensive knowledge of research methodologies or reflective practice approaches, understanding their assumptions, scope, and limitations. Students will plan and conduct a coherent project aligned with clear objectives, applying appropriate frameworks to address complex educational issues. The module also focuses on critical analysis of findings and the development of evidence-based recommendations. Strong emphasis is placed on independent learning, project management, and communication to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
